‘What I Can Do: Reduce, Reuse and Redecorate…..My ways to protect environment’. Our latest activity contributed in our creative series of ARTLAB on crafting through plastic waste. The one day (nine hours) workshop (11th March 2015) on environment protection was organised by SACHETAN for students of Govt School, Suthana with the support of Kansai Nerolac Paints (KNPL), Bawal under their social responsibility initiatives. This school was a good example of support under CSR. A continuity of variety of supports has been carried on in the school by KNP team and hence the bonding of school (principal, teachers and students) with the company was visible and worth appreciating. There is immense opportunity to go for sustainable efforts for the betterment of the students and the community by the combo of Nerolac team members and the school team.
The objective was to aware the students about plastic waste and their role in refusing-reducing-reusing-recycling the waste to keep clean their home, school, class and the village. We use to introduce the idea of REDECORATING the plastic waste along with the other 4R. We started with the children….., gradually; it went beyond the boundaries of school. The teachers of nearby schools, village key persons, sarpanch, retired teachers, and other community members started visiting the workshop. It became like a ‘mela’…colorful posters, children busy in learning and crafting their plastic waste in beautiful utility items……this colour- that colour- cut from here- decorate here- sparkle here- brush here….. all surrounded with the cheerful noise of children. At the end of the workshop the crafted items were displayed by the students. What else do you want as a facilitator of any workshop? Having community connect was the most delightful aspect of this event. The school principal and the staff were enthusiastically representing the concept of the workshop to the visitors….this we consider as success indicator for us. Well…event is over..we are back with lots of new ideas along with the long lasting impressions of eagerness of learning by the students as well as teachers and the quality of association of various community stakeholders with the school. We are thankful to Shri Ishwar Singh ji (school principal) and his staff and to all the KNP team members specially Mr. Rajesh Patel, Mr. Kobayashi, Mr. Deependra Rathore and Mr. Rajeev Saxena for understanding our concept and supporting us to organise the workshop. Also, thanks to Dr. Sheenu Chouhan who made this workshop an alive and colorful event through her creative support. You can watch the photographs in our album titled ‘Enhanced Impressions.’
