SACHETAN organised an event of Artlab for the children of Sahariya Basti near Mala Phatak area of the city. The children of the basti belong to ultra poor migrated families of Sahariya tribe. As the day begins and the adult members of the families go out in search of wage labour work, the children are free to enjoy and play. But the most concerned aspect is that they are also more vulnerable and easy to be exposed to various exploitation in the absence of care givers.
This was the occasion of diwali and so the theme of the Artlab was ‘Diya decoations’. It was decided after discussion wtih children to work on clay deepaks. 25 childre of the basti participated in the artlab. It was an alleyway where the event was organised. As soon as the event was growing, the number of children and the spectators were also increasing. The whole process of deepak decoration was became an open air exhibition and the participant children were looking like ‘artists at work’ with colours and brushes in their hand. Most of them experienced artistic colours for the first time.
