Engagement with Students of Polytechnic College, Kota

Shared Skills… This Lehenga making workshop was organized for the girls of Balika Grah….. who had achieved little success on working through sewing machine in previous learning sessions and were feeling comfortable to sew any design or pattern. The workshop was unique as they were going to sew it for themselves and it was focused on how to create the lehnga and the dupatta from the old and discarded sarees…which cut or style for what type of fabric; and the basics of measurement; enhancing beauty through gota and other types of laces. The result was amazing as you can see the pics.

Secondly, the stitched lehengas were photographed by the students of Women’s Polytechnic College, Kota. As an organization we provided an opportunity to the students of commercial arts to design a catalogue of the stitched lehengas. In this process we organised a college tour for the Balika Grah Girls who visited the polytechnic college and interacted with the students and their work. The objective was to bringing together the students (with professional knowledge and formal education ) and the girls (mostly literate but with experiential and creative learning) in direct contact, interaction and understanding each other’s talent and skills. The college students put their efforts to present the beauty of product through their photography- it was a real assignment. And , on the other hand, for the Balika Grah girls it was to motivate them and to let them feel confident with their creativity.
